Share the love

Valentine's Day is 3 days away. I am looking forward to the dinner party my dear friends and I will share on February 14. As I was brainstorming on what to serve, how to set up the table, and how to redecorate my place (I want everything to be hand made, unique, and classy) I started thinking of people who would love to partake in this celebration but perhaps do not have someone (or anyone for that matter) to share it with. I believe our expressions of love ought to be year round and towards everyone; significant others, family, and friends but sharing in on Valentine's celebration is fun too.

In an effort to share the love I decided to make Valentine gift baskets (40 of them) for all the women at the church I attend. For some odd reason, there is a high number of single mothers in this church and perhaps they are not expecting anything for Valentine's Day. I could be wrong but a lil' gift never hurt anyone.

I got these boxes from a local store. They were going to the trash but I asked the manager if I could have them and he agreed.

The materials to make the gift baskets. I'd like to point out that the teddy bears are filled with 100% recycled material, sweet. The roses, gift bags, tissue and wrapping paper were purchased at a small store owned by a single mother, hooray for small businessess. The baskets were purchased from a woman who operates a small supplies and materials enterprise from her home.

Deciding which roses I should use....

At least they will last forever, right?

Experimenting to see what looks best....

Finished with the first gift basket....

5 hours later....and 16 gift baskets done.

I'm happy to call it a day for now. Tomorrow Saturday I will finish the other 24 gift baskets.

I will distribute the gift baskets on Sunday afternoon after the church service. I hope the women like them.

Fruit and flowers make me smile

This morning I woke up to not too stellar news. Heck, I knew I had to recover immediately. Being upset won't solve the problem and so I decided to step outside and breathe. Standing outside and staring at the natural beauty surrounding me uplifted my soul and reminded me of God's greatness.

"Look at us, said the violets blooming at her feet, all last winter we slept in the seeming death but at the right time God awakened us, and here we are to comfort you." ~Edward Payson Rod....very well said.

Oh my, your earrings are quite a statement.

My small red jewelry box holds the pieces I wear most often. Makes it easier to have everything within reach especially when I start my day at 5am every day, with Sunday being the exception.

I treasure this ring dearly. It was given to my mother nearly 28 years ago and it is still with us.

"Oh my, your earrings are quite a statement." - a friend after seeing my display of earrings in my hallway.

I like wearing earrings but what I like the most is collecting them. I display my collection of more than 200 earrings in my hallway. Whenever I'm at home I will find any reason to walk through my hallway just to admire my pretty earrings. I don't know what it is but earrings make me smile. After a long day of work or when I need a bit of inspiration I stare at my earrings and gosh does it feel great. I feel a sense of relif and renewal.

This is my collection of nearly 10 years.

And yes, I have a couple of earrings that are the same style but in different colors. I love detail and especially when it has to be seen up close.

vintage 1980s does 1940s ALEXIS FASHIONS frock

A friend of mine agreed to model this lovely 1980s, 1940s print inspired, frock.

We are not camera experts and we don't have a photographer's quality camera, I own a $150 Samsung camera. Still, I like how the pictures turned out and so here they are.

I took these shots in December 2010. Two months ago but still worthy of sharing with you.

Welome...I'm stoked to start this blog

I love dressing in vintage and I love it more when I share with others the stories behind the frocks I wear and vice versa.

This is my first attempt to start a blog or as I like to call it 'my pretty corner of no inhibitions.' It is my hope that in sharing with others my love for vintage you too can be inspired by its timeless beauty. In this blog I will share with you my vintage treasures, finds, all vintage inspired things, and other pretty things that stir and evoke feelings.

Oh and you should know that one of my most favorite things in the world is old black and white dog photography. I'm a sucker for it. If I see it, I buy it.
